A British Model 1821 Infantry Officer's Sword in Timonium, MD

The hilt of typical form retaining substantial original gilding, the guard embellished with crowned VR monogram and folding counterguard, the grip covered in sharkskin with wire wrap. The lightly-curved, single-edged blade with fuller to either side with lengthy panels of foliate etching and the crowned VR monogram, marked at the left forte, MANTON & COMPANY/ LONDON/ CALCUTTA, the right forte with brass proof mark set within a six-pointed star. The brass field officer's scabbard with traces of gilding, the last 3rd a working-life replacement, chape lacking. 1st half of the 19th century.Minor age darkening to blade.Overall length 97.7 cm.
