A Rare Ottoman Yataghan Sword in Timonium, MD
The elephant grips with highly-arched terminals characteristic of Eastern Anatolian work, the elaborately-filigreed and gilded silver tangband set with corals. The blade adapted from a captured German colichemarde, of triangular section with remains of etched motifs and faint gilding at the forte. In its silver-covered wooden scabbard, finely embossed and engraved in panels depicting land- and cityscapes, together with scrolling and flowering vines. Mid-18th century. Blade with substantial wear, minor crack to tangband. Overall length 47.4 cm. Condition IIListing originally posted at http
